I am a new woman. Hear me roar!
I am not the woman I used to be.
I am a new woman.
These statements are two ways of saying the same thing, yet they are drastically different in attitude. One statement is backward-looking; it cringes in the corner, sobbing over what used to be. Cowardly and whining, it negates all that could be good in this new life. The other statement is strong, powerful. I imagine that statement standing proudly on a rooftop over a city somewhere, cape billowing in the wind, surveying the new domain.
